Codec Licensing and Web Video Streaming

Codec licensing has become more complex due to web streaming requirements, leading to multiple patent pools and royalty-free alternatives such as VP8, VP9 and AV1. Patent holders are focusing on services and content to recoup costs while streaming services are avoiding royalties with the CENC and CMAF technologies. HEVC adoption is slow due to an unsuitable licensing model.Codec licensing has become more complex due to web streaming requirements, leading to multiple patent pools and royalty-free alternatives such as VP8, VP9 and AV1. Under the Hood of Server-Side Ad Insertion (Ssai) – the Challenges of Implementing Ad Monetization Technologies

As the demand for video streaming escalates, so does the cost associated with maintaining and delivering high-quality content to viewers. Broadcasters, OTT Platforms, and any industry streaming video over the Internet are actively seeking robust monetization strategies to sustain and expand their businesses. AVOD allows content providers to engage a wider audience by offering free or lower-cost access to their video libraries while being subsidized by advertisements. Ad Insertion is then the key technical component to enable this, and two options are available to implement this model successfully: Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI) and Client-Side Ad Insertion (CSAI).
